Secure Shell - SSH

Allow users to connect with ssh

  1. The user must exist on the system and must have a shell (i.e. bash)
  2. A an entry “AllowUser xy” in /etc/ssh/sshd_config must exist

Remote Login and Copy

  • SSH client for Windows: PuTTY
  • secure copy (scp) gui-client for Windows WinSCP

ssh login

secure shell remote login

ssh <username>@<server>

export X to local machine

ssh -X <servername> -l <username>


remote copy a file to a local directory

scp <username@server>:< directory> <destination directory>

remote copy a file to the server

scp <source directory> <username@server>:< directory>
